The Dog belongs to Xu ๆ, the 11th of the Twelve Earthly Branches. Lun Heng's Wu Shi explicitly identifies Xu ๆ as Earth and names the Dog, written ็ฌ in the passage, as its corresponding animal. This historical calendrical identity is kept separate from the modern personality and archetype layers that appear later in the SAGE reading.
