The Snake belongs to Si 巳, the 6th of the Twelve Earthly Branches. Lun Heng's Wu Shi explicitly identifies Si 巳 as Fire and names the Snake as its corresponding creature. This historical calendrical identity is kept separate from the modern personality and archetype layers that appear later in the SAGE reading.
